Educational Media B: Question February 4, 2008

Use of computer research empowers us to glean a wealth of information and images quickly, combined with graphics, sound, and video. I have observed that my students, as a result, tend to multi-task, spending shorter amounts of time looking or reading before moving on to the next thing. What I might consider sensory overload seems routine to many of the students. Does anyone else feel they must provide “edu-tainment” in the classroom to break through this pace and way of learning? What are some best practices that you might share from your experience thus far?

Studio Work VIII: Full Circle December 2, 2007

Filed under: studio work — atalbot @ 1:21 pm

Based on my adventure (and constraints) I am moving forward with the fabric abstractions in a more of a 2-D form. This has really gotten the wheels churning, in terms of thinking about shape, proportion, representation of the figure and body image. I am surprised at the circle / correlation that’s occurred. I originally started out with a book illustration concept and have now come round to illustrating in / on fabric , also using thread as a medium for line. For final presentation, I believe that I will be borrowing from Louise Bourgeios and binding the compositions together in book format. Also, without necessarily realizing it, I have tapped into one of the threads that tied the 3 artists in my virtual exhibit together: roots in, the reference to the figure via abstraction.

This had definitely been quite a challenge for me. I am used to thinking, writing and producing in a very commercial way

Studio Work VII: Revision & Abstraction December 1, 2007

Deep breathing….. Since my re-proposal, I have been working through a few concepts, all of which are coming across too literally for my taste and are not communicating what I want to say. I am certain of my purpose and direction that I stated in the re-proposal, but I feel I am not pushing far enough away form the familiar context of a garment. I keep circling back to a few things:

  • I am interested in the sculptural form, but do not feel I have the time or space to execute.
  • I am still persueing / studying the idea of fabric collage / thread drawing.

I will continue working and check in later…….
